SATSA – Mozambique Update

SATSA News

Following a week of uncertainty in Mozambique, tensions still persist as opposition leader Venancio Mondlane continues to rally support for nationwide demonstrations, particularly in the country’s economic hubs and ports of entry.

"We're seeing a mixed picture emerging," says SATSA CEO David Frost. "The weekend brought welcome stability and the Lebombo crossing is operational, but we're hearing reports of more protests between 13 and 15 November.”

Thankfully, popular tourist destinations and resorts remain largely unaffected, however, visitors should be prepared for potential challenges including delays at the country’s borders, public gatherings in urban centres (which may turn violent) and limited access to some businesses and services.

"We're still advocating for flexibility over cancellations," says Frost. "While we fully acknowledge safety concerns, we're committed to supporting our regional tourism partners through this challenging period. Our recommendation is to work with your travel providers to adjust dates where necessary, rather than abandoning travel plans entirely."

For those currently in Mozambique or planning imminent travel, SATSA recommends:

  • Staying informed through official channels
  • Steering clear of public gatherings
  • Following accommodation and tour operator guidance
  • Maintaining adaptable travel arrangements
  • Being prepared for potential service interruptions
